The ship has been invaded by pirates. They're noisy on the network, but you haven't seen any, not in person. Though if you go far enough things start to make themselves apparent. Kitchens have been ransacked. Pieces of the walls are torn out, media libraries overturned. Maybe you should get your valuables together and find somewhere safe to hole up...

[ It took a little longer for Jo to get wind of the pirates, since she didn't tend to check the Network and had to wait until someone in the bar had, but when she did she was in mission mode. Grab her weapons, the gun and the knife and as much food as she can hold, and locks herself in the bar. Or doesn't, necessarily, lock herself in. The door is barricaded a little, and she's sitting right inside with her gun at the ready and her eyes on the door.

Hopefully you try and contact her before you step inside, because chances are you will be shot at without asking questions first. Pirates are welcome to try and make it inside, if they don't need their faces, or their knees, or anything similar. She's a pretty good shot, and plans on being generous with the ammo. For as long as she can, at least, until she's just locking the door and shoving every movable object in front of it. She leaves it open, for now, in case anyone she knows needs the shelter, but if she runs into a problem the door is closing.

There's also the off-chance you might run into her when she tries to go on a supplies run - this would be on the first day, where she'd just get to the closest kitchen or storage area to try and salvage anything she could. It'd be quick, an in and out, but also possible if you don't really want to play chicken with a closed door and a shotgun. ]

[Truth be told, Garrett has been just routinely keeping an eye out for pirates--and what better place for them to hide out in than the local bar? They must surely love their whiskey and vodka. Luckily he's learned from Heather that letting someone shoot you? Ruins your clothes. He'd had to stitch together a big, ugly hole from her shotgun at point blank.

So the moment he realizes he's about to be shot at again he actually learns from his past mistakes and blurs right on out of the way of the blast. He could probably catch a bullet with his hand, but he'd rather not have to deal with achy chipped fingers all day, y'know?]

Hey now--!

[He swooshes over to the bar.]

It's a little overkill, don't you think? There aren't even any pirates yet to be shot.

[ Honestly? The fact he can move like that automatically makes Jo think monster and she's already got the next round loaded and ready to go by the time he stops, aiming over to the bar but hesitating. The last thing she needs is to worry about breaking any of the bottles. ]

Wouldn't call it overkill if you're still standing. [ so she might not be shooting, but the barrel is still aimed and she's not looking very happy. ] Bar's closed, sorry.

[ugh nooooo]

I would not shoot me; there'll be a hideous ricochet and you might get hit.

[There is no lie there, there would seriously be bouncy bullets. He looks around (hands still raised in defeat) and takes note of something.]

Wichita's still taking a vacation, then?

I'm more worried about the alcohol, honestly.

[ Still not putting the gun away, though. ]

Yeah, she must have planned it around the pirates. Can't really blame her.

Then you should definitely refrain from shooting me.

You're really holding down the fort here by yourself? I'm guessing you're no average bartender.

[His eyebrows raise; he's impressed, a little. He's very rarely had a woman (a girl, really, to him--but that's unfair, rude, isn't it?) aim at him with such a level look about her. He won't tell her that he's 'breathing' in the air through his nose for a good whiff of the place; it's a tick of his, at this point. Lots of years of sniffing for interesting scents.

Is he a dog or a vampire, who knows.]

But then, it explains why you're in charge in the meanwhile.

Let's just say I know how to protect what's mine.

[ And without Wichita around, this bar is her's. And she'll do whatever it takes to make sure that it stays in one piece, pirates or no. So you'll have to excuse the way she's not going to drop that barrel, or even lessen the look she's giving.

Her instincts are a little on edge, at the moment. ]

Yeah, well. I do what I can. [ a beat, and then: ] Can I help you with something?

I heard someone in the bar, so I wanted to visit; in a place like this, it's good to strive for interesting company.

Granted, he was hoping it was a pirate, but... eh, it's still not so bad. Visiting humans has actually been his favorite pastime, y'know. He takes note of the raised weapon and leans on his elbow, frowning. Motioning a circle around his face.]

... Look, if you really want to shoot me and get it out of your system, go ahead. Just don't shoot for the face; it cracks easily.

[And the last thing he needs are people looking at him funny because his flesh is cracked like marble.]

Normally I'd say you found the right place, but now's not really a good time.

[ No offense, but she's trying to keep as many people out of the bar as she can. Not unless they need the protection, which is why she's kept her door unlocked. It's making her uneasy that he seems so calm about this - not because she's used to people turning tail as soon as they see her with a gun in her hands (even if it'd be smart) but giving the go ahead? ]

What the hell does that mean?

[ He's just poking around, really; Vera's big enough that any pirates who seem him tend to scramble, at least for now, and Jayne doesn't really care about what they take from rooms that aren't his. The bar, though, now that's a different story. He heads on over just to see how it's holding up, maybe if there are some things he could take.

Barricaded, probably. If there's someone smart, they're inside. Not pirates -- they'd probably leave the thing open to take loot out. Hrm. ]

If'n there's any pirates right in there, y'all should probably be gettin' a move on now. If not, don't mind me none.

[ He really hopes he's not talking to himself. ]

[ Nothing to take here, Jayne, seeing as Jo's got anything of worth all piled together and hidden as well as she can. Plus, there's the whole 'girl with a shot-gun' to deal with, and she doesn't take kindly to strangers. So at his call he can probably hear her cocking back the action to load the gun. ]

No pirates. No customers, either.

[ She'll probably still shoot if you try and walk in, though. Just a fair warning that she doesn't actually voice. ]

[ Hey, he recognizes that voice. ]

What, you ain't got your gun loaded already, girl?

[ Just gonna lean up against the wall here, a bit away from immediate shooting range. ]

Not everyone's as cuddly as I am, y'know.

[swedge]

Course it's loaded. I just think the sound is a little more intimidating.

[ since she can't just shove the barrel up against his back like she normally does to men who walk into her bars unannounced. But she's already relaxing a little because she doesn't recognize him, now. Granted he's a little more sober and not slurring his words, but still. ]

Cuddly? With that? [ she's referring to Vera, there. ] Hate to see what you consider aggressive.

Yeah, I'll give you that.

[ See Jo, this is why he likes you. Smart girl, good at bein' intimidating for her size. ]

Vera here is a lady, [ Jayne counters, chuckling. ] But I ain't pokin' around here lookin' to loot the whole ruttin' ship, now am I? An' I ain't no supernatural critter, neither. [ Since, well, he's heard those are... around. ] An' I definitely ain't no Reaver, so yeah, I'd say cuddly.

[swedge]

You do have a point. What's a Reaver?

[ Jo just kind of eyes him, waiting to see if he'd give her a reason to shoot or not. She's already scared off enough people - pirates or no - who thought they could get their hands on a bottle or two during the chaos.

After a moment, though, she'll lower her gun. Just a fraction, but enough that he shouldn't feel in constant immediate danger of being shot. ]

Begs the question of what you are doing here, though.

[ Jayne actually shudders slightly. Reavers. What the ruttin' hell did he bring them up for? ]

They ain't men, that's what. They get all wrong, cuttin' on 'emselves, rapin' and murderin' and eatin' people alive.

[ If he could not talk about it anymore, that would be great. ]

Just lookin' around, seein' what they're all takin'.

[swedge]

They sound like pirates.

[ Except so much worse. Oh god. ]

Yeah? What're they taking? [ Because aside from a supplies run or two, Jo's been holed up in this one room. She's not curious enough to go out and see what's going on, but curious enough to ask. ]

[licks]

[Kate had managed to contact Jo to see if she needed anything. Once she figured that it'd be better to help Jo defend a larger area, she made plans to meet up with her on her next supply run. She'd provide back-up and get her back to the bar safely that way.

Finding Jo wasn't easy, but she manages it just fine and now the two of them are back at the bar, prepping to hold down the fort - so to speak.]

You know, I was just thinking how this place didn't have enough things trying to make our lives difficult.

[swedge]

[ Having Kate there to have her back took a lot of stress off Jo, and she could already tell it was going to be in both of their best interests to stick together. Neither one of them were one to go running to the gardens, and Kate had ammo.

Jo's stocking away the supplies they'd managed to grab last run, laughing a little to herself at that comment. ]

Gotta spice it up somehow, right? Though I have to admit, wasn't expecting space pirates.

[licks]

It can always be worse, though. I mean, what about Space Hookers? Space Triathletes.

[Kate thinks about it as she starts to set up some of their defense.]

Space Lion Tamers.

[swedge]

Lion Tamers?

[ Just a laugh, before she's standing back up and clearing the counter of anything food. She needs to restock her cartridges, while they're in a down period. And she trusts Kate to watch the door. ]

Yeah but if they don't have their space lions then they're kind of worthless. What about space cowboys?

[licks]

I don't know... a guy in leather chaps? I could go for that.

[swedge]

It'd depend on the guy. Most "cowboys" [ she puts up the airquotes just because ] aren't all John Wayne.

[licks]

That's true, but there aren't too many unattractive guys on board. [Honestly, they all look like they could be on TV shows or in movies...]

You've noticed it too?

[ It's actually kind of insane. Not that she's complaining, but still. Percentage-wise, shouldn't be possible. ]
