seventeenth jump;

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

[Yeah he's not sure if that's a question about her being here before or her punching him. Welp. Time for yes-and-no.]

You're not gonna punch me, right.

[He shakes his head, despite every muscle in his back clenching at screaming at him with a prod or touch. Maybe getting your flesh punctured with gardening equipment hurts more than his marijuana-hazed brain is willing to process right now. So much for medicinal pain killers, haha (he coulda' swore he said that out loud, but maybe he's too achy to crack that joke).]

No, nono, I can handle it. I--went long enough without it, right? I can handle it.

[Because some part of him thinks he has to suffer it through to the end, if the others had to. It's weird logic, he knows. This is the last sort of pain he'll ever have from home... physically at least. Might as well cling to it a little.]

--stitches, and I'll be a hundred bucks.

Yeah, no sweat.

[maybe that last part was aimed more at him but still]

[Oh, right. Maya is awfully blue, especially in comparison to Lilith, thanks to her bright matching hair and lipstick. And the tattoos, although Lilith has those too.]

Yes, well, I guess I am pretty blue. Physically, not emotionally. I'm not sad or anything.

[She ponders exactly how much she should tell this woman about her powers. Seeing as how she's already familiar with Lilith, she probably already knows about some, though Maya's do differ slightly.

After a few seconds, she decides to keep it simple.]

Each Siren has a different, yet fairly similar, power. I can, well ...

I can stop enemies in their tracks by trapping them in a bubble, so to speak. I'd say that's awesome.
fuckinghysterical: (Heeheehee~)

[personal profile] fuckinghysterical 2013-04-24 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[LB looks momentarily confused by Maya's first comment, but a slow smile spread as she realized what the other woman was saying. In reaction to that, she covers her mouth with a hand as a small giggle spills out.]

So you can stop them and basically kill them however you want? Shit, that does sound useful.
alaspooryork: (unarmored: are you certain)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2013-04-24 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

[Well, the first part made sense to him, given his conversations with Agent Washington. But that Carolina could possibly still be alive after all that time....]

Is she...well?

[ ooc: fine by me! Considering Cam is dizzy enough as it is he may very well just pass out on the floor for a bit :') ]

That's not nature, darling, that's murder. [ He curls his lip and narrows his eyes, affronted at the suggestion that he - or any other human - nothing more than a prey animal in this situation. Cambridge dredges up what scant co-ordination he has left and heaves himself woozily to his feet, hands splayed out for balance, and points a finger at the vampire. ] And pretty fucking rude too, if you ask me.
andblockbuster: (They just murdered Val Kilmer.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2013-04-24 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[SOMETIMES... IT JUST SLIPS. But he's smart enough not to say anything about it. And also probably thinks it's a totally valid fact that should not be considered offensive.]

It helped that I was on the other side of the country and we were only ever talking over the phone. Once we were in the same room, it got weird. [A beat.] The point is...

[DID HE EVEN HAVE A POINT TO ANY OF THIS?

...He sure didn't.]
I... actually don't know what the point is. Huh.
andblockbuster: (Sentencing scheduled for.... Now.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2013-04-24 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Topher nods enthusiastically. He agrees with that! ...And part of him is wondering if their neurological landscaping is even remotely similar. The other part is 99% sure that when you meet someone for the first time, you shouldn't be wondering what their brain looks like.]

Yeah. I'm basically the early warning whistle-blower for space crazy. It's not a bad life, if you forget the very real threat of actual space horrors.

Indeed.

[Moving on from that, then...

Sark's the opposite. He had his normal life- it was full of abuse and neglect and a strong desire for more. What he is now is the easiest means of obtaining that more.]

Not when your intent leans more towards damage than anything else. [He tilts his head and then chuckles.] I've consoled a few hostages in my day, I suppose.

[That's not what she meant at all, but sometimes it's just nice to talk to someone who gets it. And he finds LB clever enough to be worth talking to, but lacking in the discretion that one would need to abuse any information given- and what would she use it for, anyway?]
onsilksheets: (a little smug)

[personal profile] onsilksheets 2013-04-24 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
There are also werewolves, spirits, ghosts, demons, wendigos. The list is pretty much endless so I needn't bore you with all the details unless you have all day, Garrett.

But essentially, vampires are a mere blip on the radar.

[Oh, but he was endearing, wasn't he? The boyish good looks and his shyness, along with the manners; Bela was enjoying this.]

On the contrary Jehan, you have become just become more interesting to me. It's not often I get to meet someone from nineteenth century France. [Try never.]

Me? I'm from England originally, the year 2008. But I moved to America a few years ago.

I think that you wouldn't believe anything I had to tell you.

[ She's much more serious now, arms crossing over her chest, but looking vaguely haunted. ]

And I'd be the same way, if it were me.

[ If Riddick had told her that she died, instead of Carolyn living it. She can accept what he's told her about the others, because there's no reason for him to lie about it, but if it were her death... ]
killarevolution: ([C] I'll never be as good as a wall.)

[ There's a pause where Ric just takes in the fact that Mitchell laughs because it's not funny, and Ric knows it's not, but there had to be a reason Mitchell laughed. Truth be told, he's not entirely sure he wants to know why, but experience tells him he might have to. Or at the very least something will happen that makes it so he accidentally finds out. ]

Yeah, the real deal always is better and when you try to replace it your body tends to laugh right in the face of your attempt. It's alcohol, for the record. We're— [ his lips twist a little before he laughs. ] The percentage of us who are some form of buzzed is larger than you'd think. Stay here long enough and you fall into it even if you're staunchly against it.

[Rapunzel. Of course. Her incredible amount of hair should have given it away. Right out of a fairy tale. It's either a nickname or there's some sort of alternate dimension where these ridiculous stories actually exist.]

A lovely name. Is it a nickname?

[He doesn't elaborate on why he thinks it's a nickname - it's entirely possible she wouldn't understand.]

My name is AM.

[And Fili immediately feels sorry for it. He sighs, and shakes his head.]

I am sorry--this place sets me on edge.

[For more reasons that he could ever tell his Uncle. As usual, he hides more than he lets on, for Thorin's sake.]

He is well, safe and well.

[And hopefully remains so, from what Frodo told him.]

I am glad to hear it. I think York would be happy to know.

And you can't see yourself in a mirror either, while crosses make you weak.

[ You'd think he was being facetious, but that's the joke beneath the joke; the irony of how hilarious, human misconceptions turn out to be the truth in other worlds.

That vampire, Hal, for instance, had no reflection.

Henry's still rather unimpressed by what he considers an essential skill, and he doesn't hide it, crossing his arms and leaning back with a critical gaze. The well-oiled machine of blood sucking society could only do so much; mistakes are inevitable, and the act of forgetting the easiest and most reliable way of hiding their existence. ]

And what, have them give it to me willingly? Skip the fear? [ a chuckle. That'd be missing the fun part.

[personal profile] prodigalbrat 2013-04-25 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
What's the difference between a human and an animal, if they're both food?

[ Agitating a hungry creature with sharp teeth is never a smart idea, even if that creature is in fact a man who wears a face like any other in a crowd. Maybe it's the similarity, the human face hiding the monster, that prevents Cambridge from seeing the danger that lurks behind soft-fisted words.

But Cam doesn't get it, doesn't get that a hundred years hasn't amounted to maturity, that Henry's patience only has so much give, until it snaps right before him. Henry lunges for him, flashing forward to lift him up by the collar. Less than five seconds have passed. ]

Usually I have to yell.

[Somehow, Wheatley manages to look very pleased with himself.]

Terrified of it. Something about the accent, I think, but a good shouting at usually does the trick. Doesn't like it when I get angry.

[It really wasn't what she was talking about at all, but LB welcomed the subject change regardless; even if she was one with a lot of regret over many subjects, she didn't like to divulge that on others if she could help it.]

You fancy interrogations, I take it? Heeheeehee?

[She hesitates as a question forms in her mind. But if anyone could understand it, she supposed it would be Sark.]

Do you miss it? Having something to do that you know you're good at? I can't imagine the demand for that kind of thing is in high demand, around here.

[And that was LB's internal conflict -- she damned well knew she was good at battle and thirsted for it, but yet her motives lied in finding some way to regain part of the normalcy she had before. It was confusing and incredibly frustrating all at the same time.]
