The Cyllene welcomes you with bright lights and luxury interiors, kitchens stocked with every food you could desire, bedrooms outfitted with lush furnishings, closets full of the finest clothes. Take your fill - there's no one here to stop you, and it's easy to overlook the sense of emptiness, the plates of half-eaten food and media devices still playing like the viewer only just stepped out a moment ago. The unwelcoming feeling crawling up the back of your neck is just that, a feeling — so there's no sense in letting it dissuade you from enjoying everything the Cyllene has to offer, is there?

Just getting started, really. You been to the kitchens yet?

I have but I wouldn't oppose to going there again.

[ he nods, starting to head that way, eyes open for any potential threats. what is paranoia. ]

Went through there, briefly, but I want to take a second look.

You could very well pick up something you missed the first time around.

[ keeping an eye out for any tiny hint of danger was important, paranoia be damned. she's just expecting something to happen.

she looks ahead for a moment before glancing over at him. ]

Oh, just ducky, luv. Joined up with Security. [ even if it wasn't exactly clear to him if it was in an official capacity or not. he didn't do great with official titles. they usually came with responsibilities. ]

What about you?

Have fun with that job. [ look at bela, completely not wanting to take on any roles within the ship. maybe she'll do it one day but not today. ]

I'm fine, yeah. Can't really complain about anything. [ well, she could but she doesn't want to bring the mood down. ] Got some shiny things and I'm about to get more.

I won't. On it with everyone from my world, aren't I. [ he was bullied into it bela!!!!! ]

You could if you wanted. Complain. Might not do you any good, but offer's there. [ he did perk up a little at 'shiny things' though. ] Shiny's good. We like shiny.

Oh dear. [ think of the nice, warm fuzzy feeling you'll get from helping others, spike. ]

No. I'm going to be positive. [ but it was good that he was willing to listen. ] Shiny is wonderful. The more we acquire, the better. [ smiles! ]

Maybe we could even trade what we get with others for things we need.

That's the plan, luv. Once I get hold of something I need, first. [ it's more of a murmur than anything. surely he missed it when he had hit the kitchens before. he has hope or something. ]

Oh dear about sums it up though. Told you about that Angel guy, but then there's two more. Buffy and Faith. They both come with a story about a mile long.

We'll get you something, don't worry. Even if it takes a while. [ because you are her friend and a drinking buddy, spike. she likes you. ]

God, your world has some strange names for people. [ not the point, bela. ] If their stories are too long, you can always give me a brief rundown.

[ that was actually... a lot more kindness than he was used to. he can get used to this. ]

You're telling me... [ spike snorts, though it's not even close to mirthful. more self-deprecating than anything. ] Angel and me, we're vampires, told you that already. Buffy and Faith, well. They're slayers.

Vampire slayers.

[ the whole kindness thing was new for bela and it had worked out well so far. ]

I feel like there's a bad joke to come after hearing that. [ because vampires plus vampire slayers seems like a strange team-up to her. ]

Well, you haven't been staked yet so I am assuming that you have a good relationship with the slayers.

"Good" is a strong word. We tolerate.

[ okay so buffy and he had a wayyyy more complicated thing going on, but they had barely spoken since spike came on board and he had a feeling that wasn't changing any time soon. ]

We all just -- tolerate. For the greater good, you see. Isn't that what white hats do?

Do they? I've never been a whitehat so I can't offer much of an opinion on that.

[ does a greyhat exist? she'd consider herself in the middle, being on her own side most of the time. that changed here of course when Bela realised that she needed others to survive.

they've reached the kitchen by now, much to her relief. ]

But if tolerating each other keeps you around then I fully support that.

[ he nodded, accepting that. he's not sure how offwhite a hat can be before it goes into grayhat territory but he's pretty sure he's close if not completely over the limit. ]

Yeah? Does that mean you wouldn't let them get me? [ even if out of all of them, angel would be the most likely to do it. faith and he were actually getting on alright out of some deranged miracle and buffy. buffy wanted nothing to do with him. not even to kill him. it shouldn't have felt as much like an affront as it did. ] My hero.

I'd certainly do what I can. [ holding her own against a vampire and two slayers was a terrifying prospect but hey, she had a bow and arrow (as well as a gun) and was fairly deadly with both. not that bela was going to go too much of her way to pick a fight with them in the first place. ]

You'd probably do the same for me so why not? I'll be your hero if you want me to be. [ because it would give her something else to focus on other than the loneliness she felt. ]

[allbloodyhail]

[ he would immediately take up a fight in her honor but he doesn't say so. he tries not to dwell on if you want me to be either. it sounded far too familiar. ]

I'm not worth the effort, luv. Appreciate the sentiment all the same, but it seems they're keeping me around for the time being.

All right then. [ bela isn't going to push the issue but she'll still keep an eye out for him as best as she can. it's the least she could do.

she's quiet after that, slowly searching through every nook and cranny of the kitchen to find something useful, leaving spike to his own devices for now. ]
