SETTING: SEC OFFICES
The offices tend to be tidy, but not everything here is completely professional. There are some packs of cards. There are sometimes snacks. Every once in a while someone will sneak in a few space beers. ]

... How bad is it?
[ He's the one in charge of keeping track of the department's resources, right? And the bodies they have to distribute. ]
no subject
It is...not good. If we don't gain more recruits soon...
[ A frustrated shake of his head. ]
I'm going to recommend to Tyke that we simply close off floors. But that will require considerable cooperation from the passengers, which I'm not certain we'll get.

[ Sigh. There's no right answer here, she knows, and it's not like that's a problem Edgeworth hasn't already considered. She scrubs a hand over her face. ]
I've been trying to recruit who I can. Any chance you've heard from Robin yet? [ A beat. God this is physically painful for her, but who knows if she needs to clarify. There's a slight eyeroll as she furthers, ] Robin Hood.

[ katniss doesn't really understand dogs. they're so trusting, eager to love. it comes to buss up against her legs and she never quite makes it to the next room, squatting down to scruff pess's fur, a small smile making its way onto her lips as the dog mouths carefully at her hand. ]

He waits a moment, then walks over. ]
It...seems that she quite likes you.
no subject
I've never seen a dog like this before.

He pauses, though, at the sight of Edgeworth playing with his dog. It's not something he expected, but it gets a grin out of him. ]
Didn't think people brought animals with them here.

[ Edgeworth straightens up. Immediately, he switches from casual enjoying-the-presence-of-his-dog mode into stiff formality, greeting the man and acknowledging his words with a bow. He looks a touch on the ridiculous side. ]
Forgive me. If she bothers you, I can make adjustments at once.

ota.
His presence in the offices is less predatory nowadays, or at least he's gotten better at hiding it, a casual regularity since he'd started making his daily check-ins with Tyke. Lately, gradually, the frequency of those mandatory visits has decreased, but he still shows up like clockwork.
Which, of course, doesn't mean he doesn't occasionally have to wait. And watch.
–Or play solitaire, when Tyke's busy enough, because maybe even brainwashed assassins get bored. (Or maybe he just likes the illusion of normalcy, whichever. At least he's not armed.) ]

It was, at least, familiar. Keeping an eye on things, patrolling. It was a routine, and one she was going to welcome with open arms.
She's not expecting the imposing figure sitting in the offices by himself playing a card game, and she starts at the door, unsure if she should enter or not. After a moment, though, the necessity of learning about the place where she now, in a word, works, wins her over and she enters, moving through the room with confidence she doesn't really have. She stops when she nears his table, and hesitates before speaking. ] Red jack, black queen.
[ It's only after she says it that she catches herself, and Allison flushes a little in embarrassment. ] Sorry. [ She says, moving on. ]
so so sorry for the delay
I don't mind. [ He does, in fact, move red jack to black queen, before he looks up at her, disguising a once-over as shy hesitation, but the hint of friendliness in his countenance is just this side of genuine. ]
You're new.
that's okay!

[ eventually she works out that he's stacking the numbers together in order, but the rules are escaping her. she steps closer. ]
Can you only move one card at a time?
sorry this is so late!
You can move a stack if the number on bottom is one number below the card you’re moving it to, and a different color. Otherwise, just the top card.
[ He looks up from the game, mild but not unfriendly. Assessing. The corner of his lips quirks just a stitch. ]
They don’t have solitaire where you’re from?
hey no problemo dude/tte.

[ it's not that she's unfit — far from it, the last three weeks trying desperately to prove herself to coin had come on top of years of hard labor. but she's been running all day, stopping only to refill her water bottle or massage a cramp, endless loops of the track circuit because it's easier than thinking. ]

It's more offering than gesture. Natasha holds out a water bottle neck-first, brow quirking in a silent way that definitely is gesture. Her hands are bound by old fabric, recycled from a shirt maybe, her hair matted at the temples. ]

SETTING: ON PATROL

there's nothing especially guarded in his expression. grey wind is at ease, and therefore so is robb. strike up a conversation, yo, he's up for it. ]

The huge, handsome animal that walks beside him seems calm, if not totally friendly.
Elsa's dress today is blue and shimmering, and her pale hair is in a braid that trails down the center of her back nearly to her waist. She pauses after she turns into the corridor, keeping a distance of about several yards -- she's not nervous yet. These animals have been around the ship as long as she has, they're as drenched with fluid as anyone else after a jump, and they seem well-trained and reasonably obedient. She smiles and says,]
What's his name?
[If it's that large, it must be male... mustn't it?]
no subject
I've called him Grey Wind since he was a pup.
[ since he'd first lifted the pup from his mother's corpse, and the direwolf had never left his side. ]
You needn't fear him, though I don't think you need to be told such.
no subject
Immediately, Hayley spots Grey Wind. She's seen the Direwolves around, had one of them rudely take her seat, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like seeing them.]
He's beautiful. [The wolf. Obviously.]
no subject
You flatter him. [ amused, robb reaching to rub his hand along grey wind's back, looking from her to his direwolf. ] Have you seen direwolves before?
[ which is more or less a query about whether she's met his brother or sister tbh. ]
