02 ▒ EVENT: STASIS SICKNESS ▒ MEDBAY

CHARACTERS: Ensemble production!
LOCATION: Medbay.
WARNINGS: Sickness, body horror, etc.
SUMMARY: Sickness central. Treatments, dying slowly, related events.
NOTES: Divided by days a la medbay organisation log in the comments!

You're not feeling too well. The last couple of days have been - rough. The medbay seems to be a bit more full than usual, but you're sure it's nothing to be worried about; whatever the illness is, it'll go away once you've rested and gotten a check-up. Right?

[Ianto walked unsteadily into the medical bay in the evening, kept from stumbling only by a supportive, grim-faced Jack Harkness. Both were concerned, but Ianto tried to make light of the situation when he spotted McCoy, mostly to ease what he could of Jack's worry.]

I seem to be a bit blue around the gills, Doctor. Mind taking a look?

[Jack is decidedly less at ease than Ianto's appearing to be with this whole thing. Ianto is looking blue around the gills. Literally, though. He's literally blue, around his lips and fingernails and even in the whites of his eyes.

McCoy had said over the message anyone displaying any of the symptoms should go to the medbay. True to form, however, Ianto had resisted, claiming that he was fine, that it was just a stomach bug, that whatever the ship was coming down with wasn't the same thing. Until the blue started showing up. Luckily, at that point, Jack hadn't had to fight all that much to get him to cooperate, and so there they are]

[ It's always a relief when a patient can approach their illness with a little humor, instead of panic. Or this damned insistence that some people seem to have that knocking into things and turning blue is completely normal. He waves Ianto toward one of the examination areas and nods toward a chair that Jack can pull up. ]

Good to see somebody exercising a little common sense around here. Any other symptoms?

[He climbs up onto the examination table obediently, sitting with his legs dangling off the side.]

I'm running a fever, and my stomach is feeling a bit queasy.

[By a bit queasy, he means he can't keep food down anymore. He also can't balance for shit, but that's fairly obvious.]

[Jack only steps back once he's sure Ianto's not going to fall off the table or over onto the floor]

Nausea, vomiting, headache, his ears have been ringing, fever, and now the blue.

[Don't sugar-coat what's going on here, Ianto, this is serious and I'm worried, his tone says, as he moves to hover near the chair that the Doctor pulled in for him, not quite sitting yet]

[ Ianto gets a scowl as reward for not being up front with your doctor, and Bones nods his thanks at Jack. He sets about getting some tricorder readings (it might be primitive in comparison to Data's fancy future-tech, but it gets the job done) as they talk. ]

When did the symptoms start? What order? Been able to keep anything down at all?
coffeeking: (here we go again)

[It's a conspiracy, that's what it is. Ianto frowns at the two ganging up on him, but capitulates, sinking into his shoulders a little.]

Started two days ago. Ringing ears first, then headache with a fever yesterday. I didn't eat much because I noticed my stomach was a bit out of sorts, but the nausea and vomiting didn't start until this morning. I haven't eaten anything since. The blue started just now, maybe 30 minutes ago.

We thought that it might just have been a stomach bug. Before the announcement came up. [Actually, after the announcement, Ianto had been trying his hardest to convince Jack that whatever he had wasn't the same as what they were talking about on the network. And Jack had wanted so much to believe that that was the case. Until the blue had shown up]

What is this, Doctor? I've never seen anything like it. [That he can remember, at least]

[ Finishing with his scans, he checks Ianto's eyes and hands directly -- technology is great, but he likes to have a direct understanding of a patient's symptoms, when he can.

He shakes his head at Jack's question, frowning. ]
I hate to say it, but neither have I. We've got theories but until one of them turns into somethin' more substantial, all I can tell you is that we're workin' round the clock analyzing everything we can think to check, and as soon as we know anything useful, we'll let all of you know.

In the meantime- [ His next words are directed at Ianto, and come accompanied with a stern look. ] -after I take some blood I wanna admit you for observation.

[Ianto's shoulders slumped further, if only because his own bed was more comfortable, but he didn't argue with the principle of the matter. Under other circumstances he might have protested, but it was worrisome that this disease wasn't identified yet, and Ianto was frankly feeling under the weather enough that for once he didn't want to be out and about, being useful.]

Alright. [He glanced at Jack, knowing that this would do little to ease Jack's worry.] It had to be some kind of mysterious space disease, didn't it? Stomach flu would have been too easy.

[Admitted for observation. Jack isn't going to argue against doctor's orders, but he doesn't like this, and no, it doesn't ease Jack's worry all that much at all. The fact that they have no idea what this is or what's causing it, and therefore no idea of how to cure it.]

It's never that easy, is it? [He goes for light in his tone, but doesn't quite succeed all the way. He turns back to McCoy] How many people have shown up presenting with this, then?
