CHARACTERS: EVERYONE
LOCATION: MED BAY
WARNINGS: ... Partial nudity? It should be pretty tame, but let me know if I need to add anything.
SUMMARY: Side-effects of a jump may include disorientation and temporary memory loss. Fortunately, there are a handful of others who have been through this before.
NOTES: Yes, it's a rehashing of the game premise. Don't worry, you can personalize your own (re-)introduction!

You wake up, alone in the dark.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

Don't worry, you are not alone. There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. They will help you through your disorientation, even though they might suffer from it too.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

"Whuh-- Uh, oh yeah, duh. I can do that." She's just going to tug open her locker with a laugh, then... frown at the boring clothes inside. Hm. She'd really rather not wear the same clothes as everyone else, so she takes a breath, shifts into clothes, just clothes, over her blue form. It's a little odd, but she's not going to hide if she doesn't have to.

"Wanna head up? I could go for some lunch. ..Dinner. Whatever meal is appropriate for whatever time it is."

Well that wasn't quite what he was expecting. He'd ask why the hell she didn't just do that most of the time if she didn't like the outfits, but then that would undoubtedly draw attention and questions that she wouldn't want to answer.

"Useful," He says approvingly, then smiles again. "It's closer to brunch, I think, but who's really keeping track?"

Either way, he nods and starts toward the lifts. If anyone else gives her a strange look on the way, Jim doesn't seem to really notice. When they reach the lift he glances at her again.

"So, advanced human, huh?"

Raven notices. Her eyes stay forward, but she sees the double-takes, wants to run to the lift, but she manages not to. Maybe if eole saw her in her real skin with no trace of shame, they'd realize she... had nothing to be ashamed of. Yes. Right. Erik's words start to float around in her mind, but she shoves them away just as soon as they came because she misses him too and she nearly can't stand it.

Jim's question snaps her out of it, as well as the arrival of the lift.

"Mutant, technically. I'm human, but my genes are different. I don't... know any of the science behind it, that's Charles thing, but I can show you what exactly makes me different besides the ..blue." She grins before stepping inside, waiting for the doors to shut behind them and for the lift to start moving before she continues.

"I can shape-shift. It's how I've been hiding. But my mutation isn't just meant to hide my true form, that's how I've always thought of it. It's so more than that."

With a flutter she slowly shifts, which takes a great deal of effort, into the girl she spoke as on the network before the jump.

"It's not just my face, my skin. It's everything. I only hide because I'm not... sure how people will handle knowing that."

He recognizes her immediately, after the shift. It makes sense why he hadn't realized who she was before. He wasn't exactly keeping on top of the faces to match the numbers, but there had been a more manageable number of them before and he hadn't remembered her. This explaine da lot.

It was one hell of a universe she came from. As far as he knew, his Earth had never had mutants, as she so candidly put it.

"That's one hell of a talent," Jim says, voice bereft of anything save the fact that he's impressed. "But you know-" and he pauses, because it doesn't really help with what he can tell is a fear and self esteem issue, one that probably stems from problems back in her own Earth, "If you're nervous, you kind of have an out up here."
