You wake up, alone in the dark.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

Don't worry, you are not alone. There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. They will help you through your disorientation, even though they might suffer from it too.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

There's an uneasy expression, but Japan's slowly getting the idea that this will be his most used expression in this place. "I would rather have it as small as possible. Even if it could be turned into something nice like a chrysanthemum..."

He'll frown at the tattoo a bit longer before lowering his arm.

"Ah... I am Japan." As an after thought, as he recalls never mentioning that. And maybe only just now remembering he should.

"I'm John." He held out his hand, and then took it back, and tried to remember everything he knew. He couldn't remember much, but he nod his head towards him.

"I think it'd make a nice flower," he offered. "You could draw more petals... It could be a weird flower!"

He eyes that hand for a moment before bowing.

"Pleased to meet you..." It's only a little hesitant, and it's not John's fault at all. Just an odd situation to meet someone in. And now he's struggling to find a way to end this strange tattoo conversation for good.

He'll settle with the usual way. "Perhaps so... I will consider it."

[zoosmell]

"It can be an alien flower."

"Is there any reason for the number...?"

"I think so. I think it's like... mine is meant to say how many times I have woken up like this. And maybe yours is meant to represent how many legs will be on the alien you're going to meet." He looked fairly somber for a moment.

"That is a very deep tattoo."

"Ah.... I see."

That isn't quite what he meant, but now he's imagining aliens and Tony with 8 legs and just-- A sigh. "It seems as if many people are heading that way."

A point in the direction he's speaking of. ANYTHING TO STOP TALKING ABOUT ALIENS. HE WILL FAITO.

"They are... That's kinda suspicious!" He tugged him forward eagerly. And then he stopped awkwardly.

"How's your breath?" he said, with even more awkwardness than anyone could possibly think it was possible.

OH PAUSING NOW what is going on what.

Japan didn't think it could possibly be possible.

"There's no need to rush!" He went back to striking a cool pose against the wall. "I mean, I think I'm out of breath, too. Hee hoo haw."

His imitation of being out of breath sounded more like a chimpanzee.

...Hm. That's different. Japan isn't sure what to think anymore.

"If many people are headed in such a way, it may be important..."

"Maybe we can go in a while? But I am completely out of breath. It is like I am out of air. I do not even know what air is, that is how far away from breathing I am! So we should take it slow." He continued to make labored sounds, like he was either pregnant or processing a very big taco.

"...I see..." He leans against the wall again, frowning hesitantly at the floor. "Is this a common occurrence?"

"Not really. It'd go against my title! But I don't really get my title, anyway." Two things became obvious with that statement. One, John expected everybody to know his title. Two, John didn't really care to explain about his title.

"Wait, maybe the alien could have eight legs, and two eyes! That'd fit the eight too! I mean, the eight, too, not, the 82."

I laugh when other people scream at horror movies does this count...

"Title...?"

Excuse me John that's the most interesting thing you've said all day. And Japan wants an explanation. Although the alien mention again gets a sideglance. Maybe if he ignores it and waits patiently for an answer to the first question...

"Oh! Maybe the 8 can be the horns on the alien!" Sorry, Japan, but now he is busy making motions to vaguely outline the shape of his newfound alien creation that is not a troll, but an eight-legged troll. If Japan wants to get anywhere with him, he'd have to be direct.

NO, ESCAPE, ABORT, GO BACK TO THE LAST SAVE POINT he doesn't want to deal with this level. This is a glitch right. BLUH.

That translates to about a few seconds of staring before he realizes that being indirect is useless. What is he supposed to do.

The sad part is Japan was completely distracted by this.

"Do you think so...? I must say that I had never imagined horns with aliens, though my thoughts on aliens have not been too detailed since I was attacked the New Year before the last..." A pause as if this is a perfectly normal thing to say.

"But horns leave potential for many shapes and personalities."

WHAT ABOUT THEM MAKES YOU LAUGH

"Don't you know any trolls? They're like aliens, and they call themselves our gods or something like that? I don't really get it, but they have all kinds of horns! But I'm not sure about personality... What sort of shape makes what personality?" This felt like he was learning deep things, like he was learning more about himself through astrology signs.

"Ah, like, normal triangular ones would hold a cheerful personality, surely." He holds his hands up like cat ears. Hilariously this is the troll he will meet shortly, but it's also a very biased opinion. He would probably assume Karkat was moe based on horn shape. "That sort of thing."
